Pirate Week: Make Your Own Eye Patch

DAY FIVE: DIY EYE PATCH

Every pirate needs an eye patch…or two…(so he can wear one as a necklace)…this is a super easy and frugal craft…

What you will need:

Foam sheets (one black & one white)

Ribbon, elastic or cord

Pen, glue, scissors, knife

Directions:

Some of this project will need to be done by an adult….since it involves sharp objects and hot glue…

Trace or draw the shape of your patch with a pen on your foam and then cut out the shape (I found a 50 pack of foam sheets for $5.99 at Hobby Lobby less my 40% off coupon = $3.59…or you can purchase the sheets individually)

Next, on your white foam sheet draw your jolly roger design (I used a black sharpie) then cut out.

I then took a knife and made small slits in either side of the patch to thread my ribbon through (I had a velvet option and a rope option and the boys chose the rope. $.99 a spoil at Hobby Lobby)

I actually cut the back of the ribbon and tied it off to fit.

I then hot glued the eye patch…allow to dry and wah-la!

I also did a version out of card stock, duct tape, electrical tape, scotch tape (wow that is a lot of tape) and construction paper..I prefer the foam…but Liam liked both…

I also want to note here…and I am stating the obvious…but you don’t want to leave young children unsupervised around anything with a string…so Adult Supervision is always a must.
