A New Year is a great time to get organized! I SO struggle with organization…but even I will admit a place for everything and everything in its place makes for a more peaceful, efficient home!
We have been cleaning all morning …here is the check list we used! It is simple…but it hits the high notes!
Happy New Year!
Check the Towels- Inspect and replaced those threadbare and stained towels.
Take inventory and stock-up on soap, shampoo, and any other supplies you need.
Check your medicine cabinets and safely dispose of any expired medications or other products.
Restock any staples you need in your first aid kit or make a first aid kit if you don’t already have one.
Organize your cosmetics! Expose of broken or expired items or opened mascara over 3 months old. (You can check out my make-up case here)
Take some time to go thru your pantry and refrigerator and throw out any expired food.
This is also a great time to go through your can goods and make a donation or throw out any items that do not go along with any New Years Diet Resolutions.
Remove items from the refrigerator shelf by shelf, drawer by drawer and give it a good sanitizing scrub. You would be surprised how dirty the inside of a refrigerator can get.
A great time to clean the oven, microwave, and dishwasher too.
Take inventory and stock of staples you need like flour, sugar, spices…
Also, replace batteries in your smoke detectors in the kitchen and throughout the house.
Organize supplies and clean washer and dryer.
Take inventory and restock any items you need.
A great time to clean fabric, carpet and upholstery.
Give pictures, television and decor a good dusting.
Wipe down remotes, sanitize doorknobs and light switches.
Make sure your anti-virus, spyware, malware is up to date on any computers and electronic devices.
It is also a great time to backup your hard drive and reset your passwords. Most experts recommend resetting your passwords at least once every 3 months.
Transfer important dates into your new 2013 planner/calendar.
Wipe down electronics and organize power cords.
File away all 2012 paperwork so you don’t accidentally mix it up with 2013 important papers.
Take inventory of supplies- ink, paper, pens, stamps, envelopes and restock what is needed.
If you coupon, organize your binder or box for a new year.
Run all pillows through my sanitizing cycle in the dryer. It is also a great time to replace old pillows and sheets.
A through dusting and wipe down of baseboards, pictures, decor and other surfaces.
Organize drawers and discard or donate any items you don’t want or need.
This is an especially good time to assess socks and undies and just let some of them go…
It is time to go through and ask the question…have I worn this item in the last 12 months…if the answer is no, then time to toss or donate.
Organize the closet with what ever “system” works for you—-whether it be by color or clothing type.
Discard any wire hangers (unless you prefer them) and/or broken hangers.
